Susan Gorman, Ph.D.

Susan Gorman, Ph.D.

Name: Susan Thompson Gorman

Title: Dean, School of the Sciences

Education: I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.  I earned a Ph.D. in Physiology from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.  My thesis advisor was Dr. Robert Fitzgerald in the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, and my dissertation research involved studying the neural and chemical control of respiration during high frequency ventilation.  I was a post-doctoral fellow in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and my research focused upon myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Hometown: Grove City, Pennsylvania

Stevenson University: I have been at Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julie College) since 1991.  I started here as a faculty member teaching courses in physiology, pathophysiology, anatomy, general biology, and senior research.  I was the faculty moderator for Club Med (a student organization) for 10 years and served as the Chief Health Professions Advisor until 2005.  In 2001 I became the Division Director for the Science and Mathematics Division. In 2009, I was appointed as the Founding Dean of the School of the Sciences, a position I still hold.  The ability to create and innovate in the context of a supportive, engaged community makes working at Stevenson University a rewarding and fulfilling experience.  It’s a place where shared purpose and values provide the launching pad, the safety net, and everything in between.
