Dawn Andanar, senior biolotechnology major, presented her Biology Honors project to the department faculty. She developed an instructional activity that introduces students to the use of bioinformatics databases to build trees that depict the evolutionary relationship of organisms. The activity will be used in the introductory biology courses BIO 114 Structure and Function of Organisms and BIO 115 Ecology and Evolution, and will better prepare students for work with bioinformatics in other biology courses. As a result of this project, and her coursework, Dawn will earn Honors in Biology on her transcript when she graduates.
