Another year is off to a great start!! As classes started today, the Biology Department here at SU is planning for more great events…
We’ll be undergoing our program review this year. We’ll be reflecting on the progress we’ve made over the last five years as we’ve revamped our curriculum to include more research and inquiry-based learning, and planning for curriculum and facility improvements to make our programs even stronger.
We are working on establishing our very own Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society. Hopefully, our installation will be some time in the spring.
We are starting a Biology Department Mentor Program this fall. Upperclass students will be mentors to our new freshmen students, building a community of students in the department and passing on knowledge and advice about the many opportunities that exist for our students.
And, this year, we have some extremely exciting placements for our senior capstone students. Biology students are working at the University of Maryland Medical School, Baltimore Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center, University of Maryland Dental School, and US AMRIID at Fort Detrick, just to name a few. Updates on these and other students will be posted here throughout the semester. Also, don’t miss our division’s poster session on January 28, 2009, where you can see ALL of our senior students’ research and internship work.
Keep checking back for more updates as the year rolls on. It’s an exciting year for Stevenson University and the Biology Department!
